Fried Shrimp Basket

Description

These crispy fried shrimp are coated in a golden, crunchy batter, making them the perfect combination of texture and flavor. The shrimp are juicy on the inside, tender yet firm, while the outside provides a satisfying, crunchy bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges and fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the Shrimp: Carefully place the shrimp into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil

Notes

  • Ensure the oil temperature remains steady at 350°F (175°C) for a crispy exterior. If the oil is too hot, the shrimp may burn; if it’s too cool, the shrimp may absorb more oil and become greasy.
  • For a lighter version, you can bake the shrimp at 400°F (200°C) for about 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, though the texture won’t be as crunchy as fried.
